چکیده

Continued advances in computational resources are providing the opportunity to operate more sophisticated numerical models. Additionally, there is an increasing demand for multidisciplinary studies that include interactions between different physical processes. Therefore there is a strong desire to develop coupled modeling systems that utilize existing models and allow efficient data exchange and model control. The basic system would entail model ‘‘1’’ running on ‘‘M’’ processors and model ‘‘2’’ running on ‘‘N’’ processors, with efficient exchange of model fields at predetermined synchronization intervals. Here we demonstrate two coupled systems: the coupling of the ocean circulation model Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS) to the surface wave model Simulating WAves Nearshore (SWAN), and the coupling of ROMS to the atmospheric model Coupled Ocean Atmosphere Prediction System (COAMPS). Both coupled systems use the Model Coupling Toolkit (MCT) as a mechanism for operation control and inter-model distributed memory transfer of model variables. In this paper we describe requirements and other options for model coupling, explain the MCT library, ROMS, SWAN and COAMPS models, methods for grid decomposition and sparse matrix interpolation, and provide an example from each coupled system. Methods presented in this paper are clearly applicable for coupling of other types of models. 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Technical Note : The Modular Earth Submodel System ( MESSy ) – a new approach towards Earth System Modeling

Generally, the typical approach towards Earth System Modeling has been to couple existing models of different domains (land, ocean, atmosphere,. . .) offline, using output files of one model to provide input for the other. However, for a detailed study of the interactions and feedbacks between chemical, physical, and biological processes, 5 it is necessary to perform the coupling online. One st...

A new model for Spread Out Bragg Peak in proton therapy of uveal melanoma

In this research, in order to improve our calculations in treatment planning for proton radiotherapy of ocular melanoma, we improved our human eye phantom planning system in GEANT4 toolkit. Different analytical models have investigated the creating of Spread Out Bragg Peak (SOBP) in the tumor area. Bortfeld’s model is one of the most important analytical methods. Using convolution method, a new...

APPLICATION OF ADAPTIVE NEURO FUZZY INFERENCE SYSTEM TO MODELING OXIDATIVE COUPLING OF METHANE REACTION AT ELEVATED PRESSURE

The oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) performance over Na-W-Mn/SiO2 at elevated pressures has been simulated by adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) using reaction data gathered in an isothermal fixed bed microreactor. In the designed neuro fuzzy models, three important parameters such as methane to oxygen ratio, gas hourly space velocity (GHSV), and reaction temperature were conside...

A numerical renormalization group approach for calculating the spectrum of a vibronic system occurring in molecules or impurities in insulators

Theoretically, in order to describe the behavior of a spectrum, a mathematical model whichcould predict the spectrum characteristics is needed. Since in this study a Two-state system has beenused like models which was introduced previously past and could couple with the environment, theformer ideas have been extended in this study. we use the second quantized version for writing thisHamiltonian...
